Course contents

Urine cytology plays an important role in the assessment of patients with haematuria and suspected urothelial carcinoma, particularly high-grade disease. However, interpretation requires an understanding of both the strengths and limitations of cytological testing.

  • Improve confidence in interpreting urine cytology reports
  • Understand the PARIS System classification categories
  • Recognise the strengths and limitations of urine cytology
  • Identify causes of false positive and false negative results
  • Understand when ancillary molecular testing may be useful
  • Apply evidence-based follow-up recommendations for haematuria investigations
