Course contents

Bone health is a critical aspect of women’s health, with osteoporosis affecting up to one in two women over the age of 50. Despite this, opportunities for early identification and intervention are often missed.

This course explores bone health across the lifespan, from peak bone mass in early adulthood through to accelerated bone loss after menopause. It highlights the key role of oestrogen, lifestyle factors, and secondary medical conditions in influencing bone density and fracture risk.

Designed for general practice, this course provides a practical framework for improving long-term bone health outcomes in women.

Through real clinical cases, you will learn how to:
  • Identify patients at risk of low bone density
  • Apply appropriate investigations, including DEXA and laboratory testing
  • Recognise secondary causes of osteoporosis
  • Implement evidence-based management strategies tailored to life stage and fracture risk

  • Optimize management strategies including lifestyle and pharmacological treatment
  • Support early intervention to reduce fracture risk
